“Officials versus Cancer
IAABO Officials Raise Over $110,000.00 - A huge thanks to all IAABO officials who make this year’s campaign the most successful ever. Together we raised over $110,000.00 for the Officials’ vs. Cancer campaign. The top three states that contributed to the campaign were Colorado, Connecticut and Massachusetts. The total amount of monies raised was over $180,000.00. The donations benefit the American Cancer Society with all proceeds being funneled back to the local areas for their use in research and trying to find a cure. The next campaign will be held January 23 – 29, 2012. IAABO is leading the way in showing the world our determination to make a difference for this great cause. Officials may donate year round. Please make checks payable to: Officials vs. Cancer or American Cancer Society. Click Click here to view and print a contribution form or click on the Paypal icon to make a donation through PayPal.
Tony Haley
Tony Haley - 73rd President of IAABO - The journey to here started 40 years ago on a Sunday morning in March of 1971 in Penacook, NH. There were two things that happened that morning that are as fresh in my mind today as if they happened this morning. That is when I received my patch along with 37 other new officials. I couldn't wait to get home and get the patch on my shirt as I had an important CYO Playoff game the next night and I just knew I would get more respect now that I was "patched". If booing louder and longer is more respect then I got plenty the next night. The second happened shortly after we got our patches. The board president announced the game fees for the next three years. At that time we had four classes of teams in the state. L, I, M & S and each class had a different fee. $19 in L - $17 in I - $15 in M & $13 in S and we got $0.06 a mile for travel. In Classes M & S you also had to work the JV game with no additional compensation. story continues

Jim Young - Jim Young, member of IAABO Board 130 in Massachusetts and CBOA and formerly of Board 21 in Maine, is known as a quiet and steady leader on the floor when he officiates a high school or college basketball game. He always has his partners’ backs when headed into a contest and can always be counted on in the most difficult of games.
Now, at his greatest time of need, his brother and sister officials have rallied together to support him and his family. On September 26th, while working, Jim suffered a terrible accident and was electrocuted. He suffered significant burns to his arms, chest, and back. Tragically, the burns he suffered have led to the removal of his left arm to his shoulder and the right arm had to be amputated half-way between his shoulder and elbow. Through the leadership of CBOA/Eastern New England, a fund has been established at TD Bank to help Jim and his family through this difficult ordeal. Anyone interested in contributing to the fund may do so by either sending a check (payable to: Friends of Jim Young) to Rich Napolitano, 5 Osgood Place-Unit C, Amesbury, MA 01913 or by visiting any TD Bank branch location and asking to make a donation to the Friends of Jim Young Fund.”
